Terms of service

The agreement between you and Main Street Studio. It is short on purpose. If something here seems unfair, say so and we will talk about it rather than hide behind the document.

The agreement

These terms are between you, the business using the service, and Jihan Raiyan operating as Main Street Studio, a sole proprietorship in New York. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business, you are confirming you have the authority to do so.

What the service does

Main Street Studio displays content you provide on screens you control. You open a page on a television or monitor you already own, and you update what it shows by sending us a text message. We interpret that message and change the display.

We provide the software and the hosting. We do not provide the television, the internet connection, or the phone. If any of those fail, your screen will not update, and that is outside what we can fix.

Your account

  • Give us accurate information when you sign up, and keep your email address current so we can reach you.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, including anything sent from a phone number you have registered with us.
  • Keep your password to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to your account.
  • You must be at least eighteen years old to hold an account.

Your content

Your menu, your prices, your photos, your words. You own all of it and you keep owning it. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, process it, and display it on the screens you have set up.

You are responsible for what you display, including whether your prices and claims are accurate and whether you have the right to use any images you send us. Do not send us content you do not have the rights to.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service to:

  • Display anything illegal, or anything that harasses or threatens a person.
  • Impersonate another business, or display content designed to mislead people about who they are dealing with.
  • Break into, overload, or probe the service or the systems it runs on, or try to reach another customer’s account or screens.
  • Resell the service as your own without a written agreement with us.

We can suspend an account that does these things. For anything short of a serious or urgent problem we will contact you first and give you a chance to fix it.

Text messaging

By registering a phone number you consent to exchange automated text messages with us about your screens. Message frequency varies with how often you make changes, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of all automated messages, or HELP for help.

Opting out disables the text-to-update feature, because texting is the mechanism. Your account and content remain until you ask us to remove them.

Only phone numbers you have registered can change your screens. Do not register a number you do not control.

Automated interpretation, and its limits

Your messages are interpreted by an AI model. This is the core of how the product works and it is also its most likely failure mode. A model can misread a request, change the wrong item, or apply a price you did not intend.

Because of that, you are responsible for checking that your screens show what you meant. We are not liable for losses arising from a misinterpreted message, including a price displayed incorrectly or an item shown as available when it is not. We will fix bugs we find and we want to hear about mistakes, but the screen is yours and the final check is yours.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running continuously and we do not promise a specific uptime figure, because a sole proprietor promising four nines would be a lie. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, or because a provider we depend on has an outage.

Screens are built to keep displaying the last content they received when the connection drops, so a brief outage should not leave a customer looking at a blank television.

Price and payment

Pricing is agreed with you directly before the service starts. If pricing changes, we will tell you at least thirty days ahead, and you can cancel instead of accepting the new price. We will not charge you for something you did not agree to.

Ending it

You can stop using the service and close your account at any time, for any reason, by emailing jihanraiyan@live.com. We will export your content for you if you ask.

We can end this agreement with thirty days’ notice, or immediately if you are using the service in a way described under acceptable use. If we shut the service down entirely, we will give you as much warning as we practically can and help you get your content out.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error free.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits or lost business. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will email account holders and update the effective date at the top of this page before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version. If you do not, you can close your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located there. There is no mandatory arbitration clause and no class action waiver in this agreement.

Getting in touch

Questions about these terms, or about anything else, go to jihanraiyan@live.com. See also the privacy policy, which covers what we collect and who it goes to.
